    Choiceless Dilemma
    Prologue
Jonathan Osas smiles as he walks down the stairs of the Boeing-74 Grand aeroplane at Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja, in few minutes he carries his few but heavy baggage and flags down a taxi. The short, muscular and thick-bearded driver rushes out of his Peugeot 504SR and in a Jiffy and sweatless effort he drops the load in the dirty boot of the car which was filled with corroded metals, Jonathan casts a glance at the eye-sore called a boot and he looks right towards the road adjacent to the airport’s gate and saw a much greater eye-sore which was the situation of the Nigerian roads, the road was just like the normal mediocre gate tar, to crown the hitch and to dot the I’ of the inconvenience were the pot-holes the road possessed, did I say pot-holes sorry I meant drum-holes, because the holes were as dip as drums, they arranged themselves on the road like a smaller version of the ancient Benin moats dug around the 13th-15th century. Jonathan smiles again and grins exposing his heterodont dentition due to the nation’s present predicament. He then follows the Igbo driver to the front seat of the car and sits down, few minutes later he starts nodding his head to and fro like a simple pendulum oscillating to the African highlife music that was booming from the loud but irregular speaker of the car. It was ” Earlier the better ” by Oliver De Coque. “Oh my brothers you should be ready to lay good foundation, earlier the better, in the nearest future……” The driver was driving the car at full speed and simultaneously drinking a Cola (Coke) as he drove quite oblivious to traffic rules and to Jonathan’s surprise he didn’t have his seatbelt fastened, He corrects the driver who introduces himself as Obinna and he laughs hysterically looking at him (Jonathan) like a JJC (Johnny just come) exposing his tobacco-stained incisors, he then hearkens to his correction, drops the coke on the extreme end of the dashboard, fastens his seatbelt and decelerates a little. It then came to Jonathan’s notice that most of the drivers and car owners were obstinate in abiding by traffic laws including pedestrians, children hawking various commodities moved along car lanes instead of the pedestrian pavements. Also, some Fulani cattle rustlers led their cattle on the car lanes thereby causing obstruction. Later the most common feature in Nigerian roads, which was Traffic jam, popularly known as Go-slow ‘ came into place because a Total petrol tanker broke down at a T-junction. Since, after 10 years of absence from the country there has not been any development in Jonathan’s eye, the only transition was the number of cattle rustlers and cattle has increased tremendously. “Home sweet home” he mutters to himself.
