    “OGA EMMA”

    Episode 3

    …………………………………………………………………….
Queen realised what was happening and ran after Oga Emma who had started exhibiting the characters of mad people on the sreet. As she ran, she screamed, calling for help from neighbors and people passing by. Luckily, some of the neighbors who knew Oga Emma and his family came to help and succeeded in holding him down. They quickly bundled him back to his house and bound him on both hands and feet with ropes. While these things were happening, their children held onto their mother and cried in confusion. They didn’t understand why those people were tying their naked father with ropes while their mother just watched.

Queen stood there watching the man she was trying to save turn into something she never imagined. As she stared, she replayed some of the events in her mind. She blamed herself for ever resorting to fetish means in rescuing her husband. She also blamed her friend, Jane for leading her to Baba. Ultimately, she blamed the side chic for putting Oga Emma in a situation where he needed saving. She was lost in thought.

The mad Oga Emma let out a loud scream which jolted her back into reality. She remembered she needed to do something, and fast, else her husband would be lost forever. She thought of running to her husband’s family and telling them about their son’s predicament. But she remembered she’d have to tell them what led to his madness. How she used the portion from Baba and how Oga Emma ran mad almost immediately after consuming the ‘poisoned’ food. She was left in utter confusion. It was then she realized how prayer-less she had been. She regretted ever losing her prayerful Christian background in the quest for societal frivolities. She wept. After crying and thinking for a long while, she decided to meet their parish priest for help.

Vivian didn’t see Oga Emma at his office that morning. She called his line severally but their was no response. She was getting agitated and apprehensive. She needed him to sit on the seat she had wiped with the cloth her pastor gave her. It had been long since he (Oga Emma) did that and the potency of her charm depended on it. She called again and Queen picked the call. On hearing Queen’s voice, she (Vivian) knew all was not well. The Oga Emma she had under her spell would never allow his wife to touch his phone talk more of picking his calls. She became weary. Hours turned into days and days turned into weeks, yet she had not seen Oga Emma neither had she slept with him as supposed nor knew his way about.

Then the news of Oga Emma’s predicament filtered into town. Immediately Vivian heard it, she knew it was a bad omen and decided it was time to visit her pastor. Queen on the other hand, had gone to her parish priest and narrated all she knew to him. He condemned her spiritual bankruptcy but agreed to help her in prayers. He also insisted that Oga Emma’s family must know about his predicament and that the prayers would be said collectively. After helping to harmonize things between Queen and her in-laws, they set out on a twenty one (21) days prayer March with the priest in the lead.

After three days of the prayers, the priest had a revelation in which he saw two deities fighting for supremacy over Oga Emma’s soul. In the revelation, one of the spirits claimed it will never relinquish whatever it had possessed while the other insisted that the vessel (Oga Emma) had become it’s own. After the revelation, the prayers were intensified, channelled towards neutralizing both spirits.

Vivian went to meet her pastor and seek solution for the new development. On seeing her, he (the pastor) shouted “you have failed in your mission woman. Why have you defaulted in carrying out the instructions given to you? You have failed”. Vivian was taken aback by her pastor’s outburst. She was more confused because she was yet to tell him about Oga Emma’s condition. “How did he know?”, she reasoned. While still in her thoughts, the pastor cut in. “I warned you there would be consequences”, he echoed. On hearing that, Vivian became afraid. She wondered what the consequences would be .

She started begging. “Daddy please forgive me. What should I do? I don’t want to face any consequences”, she begged. The pastor told her that his God can never share his possession with anyone. He further told her that the only way for her to be safe was making sure that Oga Emma died and whichever means she’d use to achieve that would be her decision. Ultimately, he told her that she had seven (7) days to do that, else she’d die in his place.

    How would she achieve that?

    “OGA EMMA”

    Episode 4(The end)

    ………………………………………………………………….
Immediately Vivian heard the condition she had to meet for her to continue living, she became instantly weak and felt so little. She felt her precious life fading away already. An expiry date had been tagged on her life and she could only do so little to extend the short period she had. “Daddy please, there must be something you can do to help me. Please I don’t want to die. Help your daughter please”, she begged. The pastor looked at her with no pity. He rather replied “you are still here begging when you are supposed to have gone out there and save yourself. You are just wasting time”.

With this response, Vivian knew her salvation would not come from the ‘man of God’. She slowly got up from her kneeling position and left. Coolval stories She decided she was not going to die without putting up a fight. But how was she going to fight? She thought of some possible means to kill Oga Emma. “Should she hire assassins to do the job or should she hire someone to pose as a sympathizer to go and poison him?”, she thought. Then she remembered she didn’t even know where Oga was at that time. That made the reality of her predicament clearer to her. It dawned on her that she had no means of fighting. She wept uncontrollably.

As she wept, she thought of different other ways she could have handled things with bringing in spirituality. She regretted seeking her from the pastor. She thought she could have used legal means or ‘street’ means to avenge her sister’s plights in Oga Emma’s hand. But these thoughts came rather too late. She had crossed the boundary of no return. The only way she could live was killing Oga Emma and that was a mission impossible.
    …..
Queen and her in-laws continue their intense prayers aimed at rescuing Oga Emma from the spirits fighting over his soul. Nine (9) days into the prayers, Oga Emma became very sick. The sickness got him badly that within two days, he had become so emaciated and his limbs became tiny. The medical laboratory test results said he had stomach ulcer and malaria, but the physical effects of the sickness suggested something way beyond that. He diminished drastically in body size and his mental health wasn’t improving. Also, crying had become Queen’s daily food as she couldn’t stop blaming herself for her husband’s predicament. She too had also emaciated and looked unkempt.

Whenever there was a spike in Oga Emma’s condition, Queen would run to the priest in panic. He (the priest) would always encourage her to believe in the powers of the Most High God. He’d always refer her to some Bible quotes to buttress the prayers they were saying. “Those who trust in the Lord shall be like Mount Zion which can never be removed from its position”, he’d always conclude. After hearing this, Queen’s faith would be rejuvenated and she’d go home more determined to fight the spiritual battle.
    …..
Six days had passed since Vivian was given the ultimatum, and she had not yet killed Oga Emma nor devised a means to do so. She became a shadow of her former self and locked herself indoors most of the time. She hardly fed and sleep had constantly eluded her eyes. She had started saying frequent prayers, asking God to forgive her wrong steps and grant her another chance to live. She had also been calling Oga Emma’s line, hoping his wife would answer so she’d apologize for her wrong doings. But the number had been permanently off since a few days after Oga Emma’s madness started. She resigned to fate.

That night, she (Vivian) made a decision to go to Oga Emma’s house the next day and meet his wife. She wanted to apologize to her and seek for her forgiveness. After making that decision, she said her prayers and went to bed. Sadly, that became her last night on earth. She died before morning and nobody knew how. The revenge she set out to take had taken her own life first.

Early the next morning, around 6 am, Queen had just slept after staying awake all through the night. She started hearing the voice of her husband calling her from where he was locked up. Slowly she opened her eyes and the voice came again; faintly but clearly. She got up and went to the room. There she found Oga Emma looking sane, confused and very weak. “Why am I tied like a criminal?”, he calmly asked. Queen let out a shout of joy. Her husband had become normal again. She quickly untied him and led him out.

Within the next hour, almost all the members of Oga Emma’s family had gathered in his house. On each of their lips were songs of praises to the Almighty God for rescuing their son from the shackles of darkness. There was an enormous jubilation in Oga Emma’s home. He was later admitted in the hospital due to the toll taken on him by the strange sickness that struck him while he was mad.

Sadly, his mental health was restored but his body could not recover from the effects of the strange sickness. He died two weeks after regaining his sanity.

Revenge is a complicated task. No wonder Confucius said that, “Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.”
