The Anecdote of the Idanre hill
    EPISODE 3
He led us to a mini restaurant just in front of the resort. I sat back into the chair when a woman brought her menu list. Eventually at the end I picked on “Pupuru”, a food I learnt is the Idanre indigenous populace- a local meal made of cassava. 25 minutes later, I have finished my portion, paid for our toll ticket of N2000 as Adewale led the way up the hills.
These hills are called the Oke-Idanre mountain hills and comprises of 660 steps. Adewale begins.
It was told that the war between Ile-Ife and Oyo forced the citizens of Idanre up to the top of the hills and by 1928, they returned to occupy the main town in the verge of civilization the people of Idanre lived uphill for more than 800 years. These steps you are seeing, (he pointed at them) is the modern way of getting to the top of the hills as of today and it is called “the great steps”. It was constructed by the state government for the ease of climb. It has 5 rest stops which summed up to 660 steps up the hills.
I watched in awe the mighty hills in front of me and the steps in between, I looked at Felicia with a confused stare.
Are you sure we are not going to die here?
    Hahahaha. Felicia laughed hysterically
Bros J, you too dey fear haba, me way be woman self no fear. Please let’s get started joor. Felicia walked ahead of me while the tourist guide laughed
In few minutes we got to the first rest point which was just 75 steps high. I drank some water from the bottle inside my picnic bag then we continued. Soon we covered 225 steps to get to the 2nd resting point called the Dagunro security check spot. According to the tourist guide, it is a narrow path that leads to the summit. When the people of Idanre were in the hills, the security check point was a tactic platted to repel invaders enemies.
I was beginning to get tired as we climb on. I couldn’t remember the last time I walked this far. I was getting tired but I decided to endure with stoicism; when it dawned on me that since Felicia, whose ribs set was not as many as mine isn’t complaining still we forged ahead.
Getting to the third rest stop was already 362 steps behind as we finally got to the Dagunro rest point.
Oga, you no dey tire? I managed to ask Adewale who never wore any countenance of tiredness.
It’s my job sir. We are used to it. That’s what we do every day. Adewale replied while I examined he environment.
Felicia, how far? Do you still have water in your bag? I asked
When it turned out that I have finished the bottle of water on me.
