The name of this solar-powered super luxury yacht is called Silent 80. It’s called Silent 80 because it travels in pure 100% silence due to the fact that it has no diesel engines. Rather it’s powered by solar panels and batteries.

This yacht is also called the Tesla of the seas because it uses exactly the same batteries Tesla uses in its cars to store energy which it generates from the solar panels mounted on the roof. The company behind this masterpiece is called Silent Yachts. They are also the brains behind the world’s first solar electric catamarans.

    SOLAR POWERED YACHT

The Silent 80 uses a technology called electric propulsion. It can travel unlimited range without emitting fumes, noise or any vibration. Sitting on the rooftop of this beauty is a 70 solar panel cluster. This powers the electric motors and stores energy in the same Lithium batteries used to power Tesla electric cars.

It costs a whopping $5 million (that’s 1,8 billion Naira approximately) and can hold up to ten adult guests comfortably. The Silent 80 has five luxurious cabins and because it has no engine room or fuel tank. It has enough space to bring a car on board as well as its own gyrocopter.

This luxury yacht can travel unlimited distance without stopping because of its self-sufficient nature. Considering the fact that it uses sunlight and batteries, the only time the boat will need to stop is when the passengers want to buy more food and drinks.

Just in case you’re wondering what will happen when there is not enough sunlight for a whole day. Well, the boat is designed with a backup generator that can power the yacht all by itself and also recharge the batteries.

The company says the solar panels which power this luxury yacht comes with a 25-year warranty. While the battery bank comes with a 10-year warranty. Marco Casali, the designer of this beautiful yacht said in an interview that he tried his best to achieve a refine and sophisticated Italian design.

Silent 80 has a top speed of 80 Knots and can travel in complete silence at a range of 100 nm per day. Only four of the Silent 80 Yacht has ever been made. Funny enough, they are already sold. So even if you can afford it, there’s a pretty good chance you still can’t buy it. The four buyers are expecting their yachts to be delivered in 2020.
