The rapist identity revelation by Vanessa left Henry with a feeling of rage. There's no perfect word that can be used to describe the anger Henry was feeling at that moment. He was devastated and the only thought in his mind was to devour the rapist that has caused Vanessa so much pain, sadness and reproach. He was ready to commit murder!
"You mean this is the animal that raped you?" Henry asked in anger, "Yes babe! he's the one, I could never forget his face" she replied crying. Henry immediately got down from the car and rushed the fuel attendant. He pounced on him and gave him several punches. The alleged rapist tried to fight back but his strength was no match with that of Henry's.
The fight became bloody and very serious. Henry hit his head so hard on the floor and it led to intense bleeding. People started gathering at the scene and the manager of the filling station rushed out of his office to find out what was going on. Vanessa was still inside the car crying and refused to get down.
"What's going on here?" The manager curiously asked but Henry paid no attention and continued throwing punches at the alleged rapist. They were finally separated by the staffs of the filling station but Henry wasn't done yet.
There and then, he picked up his phone and called a senior police officer friend of his. "Hello sir" he greeted as he gasped for breath, "How are you Henry?" The police officer asked, "I'm not fine sir, I have a situation that needs urgent attention. It involves a rapist sir and I would appreciate it if you send your boys now to Kon Oil filling station around Allen avenue to arrest the culprit" Henry said. The police officer assured him that his boys would arrive soon and ended the call.
As he waited, the manager of the filling station kept asking him what the problem was but Henry remained mute and told him to follow them to the station to find out. Henry didn't let the alleged rapist out of his sight as he waited for the police to arrive.
In no time, the police arrived and arrested the fuel attendant on grounds of rape. They told him to follow them to the police station to prove his innocence and for further investigation to be done before release. All these while, the fuel attendant haven't had a clear glance at Vanessa. She was still traumatised and didn't want to lock eyes with him.
They arrived at the station and the fuel attendant was detained while Henry and Vanessa went home. On their way home, Vanessa kept sobbing and couldn't utter any word while Henry was still raged and wasn't satisfied with the beating he gave the alleged rapist.
They arrived at Henry's house and Vanessa went straight to the room and cried the more. "Baby please get yourself together, everything would be fine and he must be brought to book" Henry consoled, "But are you sure he's truly the rapist?" He added. Vanessa looked at him with her eyes already swollen and said "I could swear a million times that he's the one, there's no way in this life I could forget his face".
Henry paused for a while and said "Then you should be happy that he's been caught and would be made to face the law", "Baby I don't know why I feel vengeance isn't the best step to take" Vanessa said and wiped the tears off her eyes.
Henry was a bit confused as he couldn't understand why Vanessa felt that bringing the rapist to book wasn't the best course of action. "What do you think is the best thing to do?" He curiously asked, "I just want to talk to him alone, I want to confront him, I want him to tell me why he took advantage of an innocent woman, I want him to look me in the eyes so he can see how much pain he has caused me. I want to visit him tomorrow at the station" Vanessa said.
At this point, Henry didn't know what else to do but grant her wish. The next day, Vanessa set out to the police station to see the fuel attendant. "Someone is here to see you" an officer told the alleged rapist. He walked through the corridor that led to the room Vanessa was seated in. Immediately he saw her, he figured she looked familiar but couldn't remember where they met.
It took a lot of courage for Vanessa to sit in front of him. "Can you remember me?" She asked but the guy nodded "No". "One evening at the independence memorial park precisely 2 years ago, you hijacked an innocent lady and raped her. I remember the smile on your face as you forcefully had your way in and out of me, I remember how you squeezed my breast with pleasure while I cried bitterly, I remember how you pressed my mouth tightly with your hands and I almost gave up the ghost because I wasn't breathing well, and I remember how you ran away afterwards and left me there crying. You don't have a clue of the hell I have faced these passed years, you made me develop hatred for innocent guys that did nothing to me, you made me push my family and friends away, you made my life miserable and not worthy of living. All I have come to ask you today is, Why did you do this to me? Why did you rape me?" She said with tears flowing down her eyes.
Immediately she was done talking, the guy remembered Vanessa and the night he raped her. He broke down in tears and used his hands to cover his face. The both of them teared up with no one to console each other. After a while, the rapist knelt on the floor and sobbed uncontrollably. "My name is Lex and Yes! I raped you that fateful evening. I haven't forgiven myself for all the atrocities I did years back. I was a broken and hurt person so the only way I could feel less unfortunate was to inflict pain on others so they could have a taste of what I was going through. I was selfish and emotionless, I felt worthless so I wanted others to feel same too. From the bottom of my heart, I say Sorry! Please find a place in your heart to forgive me and I'm ready to embrace whatever consequences that follows, even if it means for me to serve my term in jail. I would be more at peace with myself in jail, knowing that you have forgiven me, than be a free man who's still in bondage of guilt. Once again, I'm so sorry, please forgive me" he said.
Vanessa almost collapsed due to shock, she couldn't believe her ears. "So a day like this finally came to pass in my life" she thought to herself. She couldn't hold the tears that kept dripping down her eyes. She was overwhelmed with so much joy but didn't let it show.
She turned to where Lex knelt and looked at him while his head was bowed down. "Look up" she commanded and Lex raised his head and looked at her.
She gave a sigh of relief and said "I forgive you with all my heart".
